Excited to announce the upcoming publication of ‘Say My Name’, a new photography book by Quebecois photographer Simon Emond. The book’s haunting black-and-white images began as frames from wedding and family portraits that Emond created during his years as a photographer—while still bearing the scars of relentless bullying for being gay. Through meticulous post-production processes, he re-works these photographs into surreal self-portraits, turning his former clients into unwitting participants in a visual exorcism of his demons. The book’s title deliberately invites us all to speak his name, not to give it power, but to take it away, to break its hold on him and free him from torment.
The book is designed by Maxime Rheault, of Criterium in Quebec City, and will be distributed by Idea Books. It recently won the Burtynsky Prize for a book Dummy from Contact Photography Festival.

Heureux d’annoncer la prochaine parution de Dis mon nom, un nouveau livre photographique de l’artiste québécois Simon Emond. Les images envoûtantes en noir et blanc trouvent leur origine dans des portraits de mariage et de famille réalisés par Emond durant ses années de photographe commercial — alors qu’il portait encore les stigmates d’un harcèlement incessant en raison de son homosexualité. Par un minutieux travail de post-production, il retravaille ces photographies pour les transformer en autoportraits surréalistes, faisant de ses anciens clients les participants involontaires d’un exorcisme personnel. Le titre du livre nous invite délibérément à prononcer son nom, non pas pour lui donner du pouvoir, mais pour le lui retirer, briser son emprise et l’en libérer.
Le livre est conçu par Maxime Rheault, du studio Criterium à Québec, et sera distribué par Idea Books. Il a récemment remporté le Prix Burtynsky pour une maquette de livre au Contact Photography Festival.
